Which
Way to Heaven?
|
In
Luke 10 Jesus was asked by a
lawyer - "What shall I do
to inherit
eternal life?" The answer
Jesus
gave through the parable
of the
good Samaritan was that the
lawyer
needed to show mercy to his
fellow man. The Jewish law,
which the lawyer valued above
all
else, was blocking his way
to
heaven. Showing mercy to
others
was the only way around the
lawyer's obstacle. |
In
Luke 18 Jesus was asked
by a rich young ruler - "What
shall I do to inherit eternal
life?"
The answer Jesus gave the
rich
young ruler was that he needed
to sell his treasured possessions
and give the proceeds to
the poor.
Material wealth, which the
rich
young ruler valued above
all else,
was blocking his way to heaven.
Giving his wealth to those
in need
was the only way around the
rich young ruler's obstacle. |

Apparently
it depends!
|
| If you were to
ask Jesus - "What shall I do to inherit eternal life?" - what would his
answer be? What is getting between you and heaven? Is it one of the "seaven
deadly sins," or is it something less obvious such as work, play, education,
... or even love? What needs to be yielded? Whatever or whoever you most
treasure, unless it's Jesus, stands between you and heaven. The good news
is that, whatever the obstacle, Jesus can provide a way through or around
it. Which way to Heaven? Ask Jesus and he will surely guide you. |
